Lavatera Trimestris Loveliness, Rose-Pink (Lavatera trimestris)
Big, silky blooms: Hibiscus-like flowers up to 10cm
Easy from seed: Direct sow for quick results
Continuous blooming: Flowers for months
The Annual Mallow
Annual mallow produces spectacular silky flowers resembling small hibiscus blooms. The plants grow quickly from seed to flowering, producing masses of pink or white blooms throughout summer. Few annuals give such a generous display with so little effort.
Garden Impact
Plants grow 60-120cm tall and wide, creating substantial presence in borders. The soft pink or white flowers have a romantic, cottage-garden quality. They work well in mixed borders and informal gardens.
As Cut Flowers
The blooms last well in water and the buds continue opening. Cut when flowers are just opening for longest vase life. The silky petals have a delicate, refined appearance in arrangements.
Growing Tips
Direct sow after last frost – lavatera dislikes transplanting. Full sun for best flowering. Average to poor soil is fine; too rich produces leaves over flowers. Deadhead to extend blooming, or let some seed for next year.
