How to Use Althaea (Alcea) Rosea Summer Carnival
Culinary: Flowers are edible and can be used in salads or as garnish. Related to marshmallow – the roots have similar mucilaginous properties. Young leaves can be cooked.
Traditional & Medicinal: Like its relative marshmallow, hollyhock is soothing for sore throats and respiratory issues. The flowers were traditionally used to make a soothing syrup. Has gentle anti-inflammatory properties.
