Healing Broths and Soups
Broths are traditional healing foods — easy to digest and packed with nutrients.
Basic Bone Broth
Ingredients:
- 2-3 pounds bones
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- Water to cover
- 1 onion, 2 carrots, 2 celery stalks
- Bay leaf, thyme, parsley
Method:
- Place bones in pot, add vinegar and water
- Let sit 30 minutes
- Add vegetables and herbs
- Bring to boil, reduce to simmer
- Chicken: 12-24 hours, Beef: 24-48 hours
- Strain and refrigerate
Medicinal Additions
For immune support:
Garlic, ginger, turmeric, astragalus, shiitake mushrooms
For respiratory:
Thyme, oregano, ginger, garlic, cayenne
For digestive:
Ginger, fennel, chamomile
For joints:
Turmeric, black pepper, ginger
Classic Chicken Soup
- 6 cups bone broth
- Chicken, carrots, celery, onion
- Garlic, ginger
- Fresh thyme and parsley
Golden Soup
- 4 cups broth + 1 can coconut milk
- 2 tsp turmeric, ginger, garlic
- Sweet potato, cauliflower
- Black pepper, cilantro
Gut-Healing Soup
- Long-cooked bone broth
- Zucchini, carrots
- Ginger, turmeric
- Blend until smooth
Tips
- Good broth gels when cold
- Drink 1-2 cups daily for maintenance
- Increase to 3-4 cups during illness
- Freeze in portions
