Common morning glory has charmed gardeners for centuries with its heart-shaped leaves and trumpet-shaped flowers that open fresh each morning. It climbs vigorously, quickly covering fences, trellises, and arbors with green foliage and colorful blooms.

The Morning Ritual

Each flower opens at dawn and fades by afternoon, but plants produce so many blooms that this is never a problem. New flowers appear every morning throughout summer and fall. The daily renewal is part of their charm.

Colors Available

Purple is the classic color, but varieties come in blue, pink, red, white, and bicolors. “Grandpa Ott” (deep purple with red star) and “Crimson Rambler” (red with white throat) are popular heirlooms.

Growing Tips

Nick or soak seeds overnight before planting. Sow after last frost in full sun. Provide support for climbing. Poor soil actually produces more flowers – too much nitrogen makes leaves, not blooms. Self-sows enthusiastically.
