Common mallow was a food of the poor throughout history. The name “mallow” is related to “malache” (soft), referring to its soothing properties. Ancient Romans considered it a delicacy and cultivated it in gardens.
How to Use Mallow – Malva Sylvestris Mauritiana
Culinary: Young leaves and flowers are edible in salads. The leaves can be cooked like spinach. The unripe seed pods called “cheeses” are a traditional childrens snack. Very mucilaginous when cooked.
